Unfortunately, some of the controllers of this vintage I have tested will give a false alarm with a perfectly good set of plugs.

It turned out (after changing bulbs, brake pedal switch, cleaning connections, checking cables) that the power control unit underneath the dash causing the light. My mechanic said as it hasn't been playing up and it's happened on 2 occasions, just live with it until it gets worse but since leaving there it's got progressively worse and worse showing new symptoms. There are experienced people on here that will be able to point you in the right direction once you have a fault code to work from. Without any code thrown it is tougher to diagnose, as that light can be used for several different faults. Your controller will have done enough heat cycles by now for this to be a likely occurance - see if you can borrow another as fitting a replacement is dead easy. If still flashing and engine cold then either wiring (unusual, not unknown) or temp sensor faulty (black sensor I believe) again you should be able to disconnect and should stop.

It is plainly obvious that in the rush to meet environmental regulations VW have not tested the EGR unit adequately in realistic conditions before releasing it.Think I'll be getting only another couple of years out of the car before I trade it in for something else. Golf Simulator Forum is the center point for discussion on golf simulator products, brands, manufacturers, launch monitors and everything else related to golf simulation. The sender sits in a plastic cup, and on older style Expansion jugs, they didn't have a "Air Bleed" hole at the top so your sender can be sitting in a air pocket and not in the fluid. This can get into the engine and cause damage but normally it doesn’t although the subsequent extremely important thorough clean out of the system takes a lot of labour time and the turbo is much more expensive to repair.

I put up with mine for nearly a year and it would go as long as 2 Months without flashing but the clunking etc was usually present. When the glow plug light is flashing it is indicating that there is a fault with the engine management system. As said before though, I haven't noticed any engine performance issues and with no codes or DTC in memory, really makes it difficult to determine. Constant flashing coolant light can be a bad gauge, a bad wire, a bad sensor, and a bad control unit.

The only way to confirm the real issue is to have a diagnostic check done (where the car is connected to a computer and the fault codes logged by the car's computer are read). With nothing else to blame the failure on, VW had little room in that case and resorted to the argument that because the car was not under warranty they were not liable for anything and 100% part + 50% labour was the best goodwill gesture they could come up with. When he’s not out tossing a Champion Rhyno in his native Utah, he’s watching true-crime documentaries with his wife, wrestling his twin boys and praying the Oklahoma City Thunder’s rebuild passes quickly.

Fast forward to this morning and I am driving to work; about half a mile from my house in 6th gear, going up a slight gradient hill at 30 mph and the engine all of a sudden starts to rev high. My car has a Malone stage II tune with no DPF, EGR, or ASV installed so the computer can't be throwing any codes for that. everything still works perfectly and you can put it back in drive and nothing is wrong other than flashing. The ball took a while to get it working - you have to hit it hard to get it to glow red, but when it does it is fab. Thanks for the responses - in laymans terms (to a heating engineer with no clue about motor mechanics) what does a turbo overboost translate as?
